SUCCESSFUL pupils and staff were recognised at Garth Hill College’s annual Celebration of Success on Thursday, November 24.

More than 100 pupils were presented with awards by the 2006 winner of The Apprentice, Michelle Dewberry, celebrating the academic, artistic and sporting achievements of the school over the last year.

Among the academic awardees was Michael Mortimer, who achieved no fewer than 11 A* grades in his GCSE’s, while the top A Level performance came from Liam Griffin, who is now studying chemistry at Oxford after attaining A* grades in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics.

Principal Keith Grainger, said: “It was a wonderful evening. We celebrated success in the Garth Hill College community during the last academic year, 2015-16, particularly that of our young people.

“We are proud of everyone who received an award or was recognised for their achievement. We were especially delighted that Michelle Dewberry was able to be with us, and her address to the audience was inspirational.”

Ms. Dewberry addressed the audience and said that she too was inspired by the achievements of students and staff alike at the college.

She also encouraged those heading into further education to embrace all opportunities that come their way, both inside and outside of the classroom, echoing the sentiment that there is no substitute for passion, commitment and hard work.
