A JENNETT'S Park councillor has penned a letter demanding answers from developers who have so far failed to build a long-promised shop to serve 1,500 families living in the estate.

Residents have to travel two to three miles simply to buy a pint a milk if they live in Jennett's Park, as the neighbourhood shop promised to them when they bought their homes has failed to materialise.

Despite work starting on the shop site earlier this year, photos taken by the Bracknell and Wokingham Weekender this week show that what little progress was made has been left to rot by builders, with rusted steel work and muddy pools of water dotting the abandoned site.

Cllr Peter Hill, who lives in Jennett's Park and represents the Great Hollands North ward, says the result is 'frustrating' and 'isolating'.

He said: "Work had started and then work stopped, it's frustrating because we have exhausted all of our options at the council there's nothing we can do.

"I've managed to get copies of the prospectus and materials they sent out when they were selling houses and they clearly state there will be a shop. I understand there might not be a doctors' surgery given the national shortage of GPs, and maybe not a public house like they said, but a shop is a basic thing we need.

"Jennett's Park has a fantastic community it's just there's no really good neighbourhood shop to bring it together. It makes people feel quite isolated here."

Emails and messages sent to the head of developers Persimmon and Redrow Homes have been ignored, Cllr Hill says, and he is demanding and explanation and an apology from the firms about the five-year delay on delivering the shop.

One rumour about the work stopping is that there is a disagreement over the price of the land and the title hasn't been transferred to Persimmon because they won't pay the originally agreed price, but both Persimmon and Redrow have so far refused to comment on the issues.

Bracknell MP Dr Phillip Lee waded into the disagreement earlier this year but also failed to get any answers from the developers, with Persimmon Homes, who are responsible for building the shop, merely stating they were working through issues causing delays.
