THE weather failed to dampen the spirits of a village as residents turned out in force for a popular fair.

The Colnbrook Apple Fair was held on Saturday and narrowly missed the storms of Thursday and Friday to welcome about 800 people to Colnbrook Recreation Ground.

Morris dancers, choir groups from Colnbrook CofE Primary School and Pippins Primary School, and various stalls were all part of the day which raised money for six different causes.

The two primary schools, St Thomas’s Church, Colnbrook Scouts, Colnbrook Museum and Education Centre project and Khalsa Aid were all the beneficiaries of the day where £7,000 was raised in total.

The event was organised by the Colnbrook Residents Association.

Its chairman Sean Kelly said: “It was a great success. The village came out and supported us which was the most important thing. It would have been a lot better if the sun had been shining, but everyone we spoke to said they enjoyed it.

“A lot of thanks must go to the residents and businesses who have supported us, as well as the committed that helped to organise it. We only had five people on the committee and it took a lot of organising.

“We laid on a full, action packed day and we are very pleased with how it went. We are over the moon with the amount we have raised and we will have a meeting next month and work out how to distribute the funds.”
