A POPULAR contest will return with fancy dress fundraisers rolling barrels around the town.

The Slough Barrel Roll will take place on Sunday, with four pubs competing against each other to take the crown for best pub.

The Rising Sun, The Moon and Spoon, The Red Cow and The Wheatsheaf will all be up against each other in the contest which is now in its fifth year.

Ian Reynolds, chairman of the Slough Barrel Roll contest, said: "This is the fifth year we have been doing it and we have four teams of five which is more people than last year.

"I have been involved with it in every year, running a team three times, and we are doing a lot more activity around the town ahead of this one."

Each pub will set up games for the other teams at their establishments, with the teams travelling from pub to pub around the town centre starting at the Rising Sun.

Mr Reynolds is also the staff manager at the Moon and Spoon, and promises to be unbiased in his judging.

He said: "Each pub has to have a pint of ale at the pub when they arrive, then they play a little game devised by each pub.

"I have got to be completely unbiased. I have won it twice before when I was on a team, and historically the Rising Sun aim to come last each year.

"It has always been a good way of bringing the community together, with a mixture of staff and customers taking part."

The contest will also be raising money for Slough Foodbank, with a target set of £1,500.

Collection points will be along the route, and the pubs will also be taking in food items on the foodbank wishlist to donate to Slough Foodbank.

The event starts at noon on Sunday at the Rising Sun in Windsor Road.
