A COMMUNITY project which provides a platform for creative young people celebrated its two year anniversary.

Empoword, a project put together by Aik Saath, Together As One and Youth Engagement Slough (YES), marked its second year of being in operation with a special performance day.

The event, held at the YES store in the Observatory Shopping Centre, featured a host of talented young people expressing themselves through poetry, story telling and rap music.

Declan Grant, compere of the event, said: "I think Empoword is amazing, it gives young people who maybe never had a voice a opportunity to express themselves and see social change through poetry. It has been an incredible experience to see how so many of our artists have grown over the past few years.

"I can't believe how far the event has come in two years and I hope we keep growing bigger for years to come."

The special anniversary performance was held on Saturday, August 6.

The project meets on the first Saturday of every month at the store. To find out more, contact Declan on declan@yesslough.org.uk
