TRIBUTES have poured in for an "icon" of Bracknell who died on Sunday after sustaining multiple injuries in a three-car collision in Jealott's Hill last week.

Manager of popular Indian restaurant the Koh I Noor Jan Leahy was involved in the crash in Maidenhead Road on Wednesday, July 6, and died from her injuries in hospital 11 days later. The 60-year-old was well known as the voice of the Priestwood Square restaurant.

Tracey Stamp, owner of hairdressers D M Cuts and friend of Jan's for 30 years, said she was already missing their daily chats over the phone: "My best mate Jan, my rock, my confidant, my advisor. I feel like a light has gone from my life. We shared so many precious moments together, we have laughed and cried and been together in happy and sad times. I miss her so much. This town is so shocked, she was such a strong, strong woman."

Ruby Olrod worked at the Koh I Noor and was a friend of Jan's for more than ten years and said: "Jan was my diamond, she was an icon of Bracknell and they have lost a legend. She was my life everyday and I don't know how I'm going to carry on without her. She was one in a million."

A stream of messages have been left on Facebook following the tragic incident from friends, family and customers at the restaurant.

Cathy Patel from Priestwood said: "Very sad news, thinking of Steve and all the staff at the restaurant, she was our takeaway voice on the phone will be sadly missed."

While Juliette Brooker wrote: "This is so sad I can't believe it, RIP Jan you were our Friday night voice, our thoughts go out to Steve and all the staff, from Julie, Chris and family."

Jan was rushed to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital following the collision on Wednesday with multiple serious injuries.

Kenneth Martin, of High Street in Bracknell, was charged with one count of causing serious injury by driving and one count of driving while above the alcohol limit on Thursday, July 7.

The 35-year-old is due to appear at Reading Crown Court on August 8.
