AN awards evening acknowledging the hard work to help a British Legion branch has been was held.

Cippenham British Legion, based in Brook Path, Slough, organised a Poppy Awards evening on April 8, recognising the efforts of organisations including Cippenham St James Ambulance Cadets, Slough Army Cadets, Cippenham Army Cadets and Britwell Airforce Cadets, on Friday, April 8,.

Tony Martin, president of the branch, said: “The St James Ambulance Cadets are always at fetes providing first aid for us. We need people who know what they’re doing.”

Vincent’s Stores, Cippenham Lane; Chalvey Working Mens Club, in High Street; and The Alpha Arms in Alpha Street North, are all also big collection contributors.

Mr Martin said: “It was made worthwhile with the number of people who turned up. It was very nice to see so many people down in the legion acknowledging what other people have done.

“It was the community coming together and showing its support.”
