A GIANT dragonfly sculpture is taking shape at a popular nature reserve with a little help from enthusiastic young supporters.

The sculpture will be based at Haymill Valley community nature reserve, known as the Millie, which is bordered by Whittaker Road and Marescroft Road in Slough.

It is a joint project between the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust, which administers the reserve, and the Creative Junction organisation, which works to bring art and culture to young people across Slough.

Young visitors to Haymill Valley on Thursday last week were invited to make their contribution to the dragonfly’s wings by coming up with decorative creations of their own.

Wendy Tobitt, campaigns manager for the Trust, said: “When the sculpture is finished people will be able to look at it and say ‘I contributed to that’.”

The sculpture will eventually rise dramatically from the reserve’s reedbed, joining the beautiful kingfisher sculptures already in place at the centre.

Ms Tobitt said: “This is a wildlife haven in an urban setting and much loved by everyone who lives in the area.”
