BRACKNELL'S motorists face six weeks of disruption on a key route out of the town as work to install new traffic lights on the Jennett's Park roundabout begins.

Starting on Monday, September 21 the work will see traffic lights installed on the westbound A329 Berkshire Way approach to the junction in efforts to ease pressure on the often-congested road.

The project is expected to cost £200,000 and will be complete by November.

Bracknell Forest Council say lights are the most 'effective and affordable solution' to the town's traffic woes.

Cllr Chris Turrell, executive member for planning and transport, said: “The work is part of a bigger plan to grow and promote Bracknell Forest as great place to live, visit and do business in.

“It’s about a joined-up approach to investing in our local economy so that when we create jobs, invest in new schools and build new homes, we are also providing the roads that connect people and the lives they lead.

"We have looked at various options for the Jennett’s Park roundabout and introducing traffic light control is the most effective and affordable solution. The overall cost of the scheme includes the traffic signals, CCTV, minor amendments to the road markings and landscaping.”

There will be single lane closures during off-peak hours, though drivers should expect some delays.

The town centre regeneration, building of 11,000 homes and business developments means the roundabout could not cope in its current form, the council claim.

The work is the latest phase in plans to keep future traffic flowing along the A329 and A322 corridor between the M4 and M3.
