A YOUNG sports fan who died tragically young will be remembered tomorrow (Saturday) when a charity football tournament is held in his honour at Powerleague leisure centre.

Chelsea fan Chris Seymour, 21, of Dedworth Road, Windsor, died after falling from a bridge on the M4 motorway in March. His funeral was attended by 400 people at All Saints Church, Dedworth, in May.

His friend George Torpey was determined there should be some sort of permanent memorial and has organised the first Chris Seymour Memorial football tournament, taking place from noon at Powerleague in Ragstone Road, Chalvey.

Mr Torpey said: “Originally I had hoped we could hold it nearer Chris’ birthday and it was going to be one match. But now it is going to involve about 10 to 20 teams – the majority of the players will have known Chris. It would be great if it could become an annual event and then we can make it as near to his birthday as possible.”

It was decided early on that the tournament would raise money for a good cause and Chris’ mum Angela picked the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service. The charity is raising money to build a children’s hospice near Maidenhead. She has paid for a cup for the winning team and medals. Friends and business have contributed prizes for the raffle and Each team will contribute £50 towards the charity.
