Special guest: Stuart Roberts, new manager at The Cricketers in Warfield, with Sir John Madejski at the pub's relaunch event.
A VILLAGE pub has been transformed into a plush and inviting eaterie after a facelift.
The Cricketers, in Cricketers Lane, Warfield, reopened to the public at the beginning of the November, inviting VIP guests for a special launch event later that month.
More than 190 guests, including Reading FC chairman Sir John Madejski, plus local businesses and villagers, toasted the future of the refurbished pub. Members of the local CAMRA branch, as well as players from Warfield Cricket Club, also attended.
New manager Stuart Roberts said: "The Cricketers has been completely transformed and we are immensely proud of it. The feedback I've been getting is that the refurb was long-overdue - all the locals have been waiting for this."
New head chef Joe Whitfield cooked up complimentary samples from the menu, alongside wine and live music from a jazz band.
Mr Roberts added: "Joe and the team have created some really special dishes and we are very grateful to everyone who came to the launch event. It was a pleasure to meet Sir John."
The renovation included radical changes to the interior - such as making ceilings higher, setting up log-burning fires and bringing in new furniture and flooring - as well as a complete overhaul of the menu, which offers premium, fresh food. A large extension now offers diners views over the countryside and, for the summer, there is a new outdoor dining space.

Report commentThree of us went to The Cricketers fir lunch, today, the 30th December.
We really enjoyed it!. Kath,Sien and I had the bread and olive oil sharer....yum. Then Kath had the roast, Sien, a vegetarian, had the mozzarella risotto, ( looked lovely ) whilst I had Goat's cheese, rocket salad.
For dessert Kath and Sien has lemon tart, very lemony but I remembered that I was supposed to be on a diet and settled for a black Americano
Kath and Sien had a glass each of house red. I was driving so had ice cold water with a lemon slice.
When my daughter and son-in-law return from visiting my son and family in Hong Kong we will be visiting The Cricketers.
Many years ago I would take my two children there for lunch and............we were chased by the resident geese!!
