TWO budding Berkshire entrepreneurs narrowly missed out on top spot after impressing in the finals of a competition.

Marcus Davies, from Slough, and Mike Robinson, from Reading, attended the HW Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition finals held in Reading, on November 1.

Both business leaders represented their region at the competition, run by chartered accountants Haines Watts.

Amandeep Duhra, partner at Haines Watts' Slough branch and one of the judges, said: "The extremely high-calibre of the finalists was a delight and made choosing just one winner a bit of a headache!

"They all gave a 'Dragon's Den' style presentation on their business and were asked searching questions relating to finances and prospects."

Mr Davies, chief executive of consultancy business Integrella, and Mr Robinson, commercial director at Newbury-based digital marketing agency Generate UK, both picked up a £250 cheque and won a year's free mentoring from Haines Watts' partners.

The finalists heard presentations from leading entrepreneurs, before Dale Barrett, from Oxford, was named overall winner.
