THEATRE

* The Sound Of Murder. It’s murder, the perfect murder. So Peter Marriott

hears. Peter is in love with beautiful and sweet Anne Norbury and they

want to marry. But there is a problem. Anne is already married to an

egocentric and famous children’s writer. The Mill at Sonning until

Saturday, November 29.

* The Holly and the Ivy. Set in a Norfolk vicarage on Christmas Eve 1947,

the vicar’s family gather for the festive season. Peace and goodwill

radiates from the warm-hearted elderly vicar, cared for by his young

daughter. But with the arrival of two irritable aunts and an errant

daughter the emotional veneer is skilfully peeled away. The Holly And

The Ivy runs until Saturday, at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre,

Guildford. Thursday, 7.45pm, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and

Thursday and Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets from £13.

* The Actor’s Nightmare. Have you ever dreamt that you are on stage and

don’t know your lines? Join George as he struggles against theatrical

odds in this hilarious comedy from American writer Christopher Durang.

* The Siren’s Call. Jane Parr is an average girl in an average job in the

cafe of the British Museum and Library, but this is no average day...As

the bomb-proof door of one of the museum’s deepest vaults closes behind

her, Jane steps into the past. The museum above comes startlingly to

life – and the Irish Sea swells under western skies as Jane reads from

the diary of her 1804 ancestor, Emma Bennett. Until Saturday at The Watermill, Newbury. Thursday and Friday at 7.30pm and Saturday

* The Tamer Tamed. In this unofficial sequel to The Taming of the Shrew it is the rebellious women who get their way over a host of desperate men. The Progress Theatre, Reading, til Saturday, November 29. 7.45pm, £10.

* Tons of Money. First produced in 1922 starring the great Ralph Lynn, Ayckbourn’s adaptation of the Aldwych farce, famously presented at the National Theatre in 1986, retains the spirit of the original whilst altering some of the original letter of the text.
