Reading band The Kixx
The Kixx may be tipped to be the Next Big Thing but the Reading-based band are certainly not kicking their heels along the road to success.
Not only have the four-piece just been announced as part of the Big Sing line-up – a nationwide event organised by youth music charities who seek to involve young people in music – but their single Apology will be sung by a million schoolchildren as they attempt to break the world record for the number of people singing together.
The band will be playing some major venues on the connecting Young Voices tour.
The 12 dates include Birmingham’s NIA, the Royal Albert Hall and London’s O2 arena, where, as part of the Big Sing event on November 27, well over one million kids from schools up and down the UK will attempt to break the world record for the biggest singalong.
Jack Guppy, an 18-year-old ex-Highdown student from Emmer Green and bassist for the band, said: “We are excited about this big opportunity and these gigs are certainly going to be career breakers.”
For the band, who until recently went by the name Myles Finch and had only played small local venues, being found by Young Voice marketing director Ben Lewis has acted as a catalyst for major change.
Now instead of the Three B’s the band are playing across three countries and will be release Apology, their first single, next month.
The recording of the single was an adventure in itself.
“The whole thing was really random,” explained Jack.
“First we were down in a Bristol recording studio but when they couldn’t get the sound they wanted the producer said: ‘How quickly can we get to New York?’ And the next day we were in the Big Apple!”
However, this success did not just fall into The Kixx’s lap – they have been playing together for many years, working hard to obtain the developed sound they boast today.
Jack, who taught himself guitar, has worked tirelessly to persue his passion for music, something he attributes to his father. “There have always been instruments in my house, and my dad is a keen musician,” he adds.
The Kixx are making their presence known on a national – and even international – scale, making sure they are set to be the biggest thing to come out of Reading since The Cooper Temple Clause.
Apology will be released on Monday, December 8.
