ARTISTIC: Sanjay Limbachya and Oliver Butler

BEING arrested for swearing is not usually the topic of a song you expect to listen to – as you can hear from the download on this site.

But then neither is being arrested for swearing something you would expect to happen.

However, for Sanjay Limbachya both have happened to him.

And now he has turned his experience with the police outside a nightclub in Wokingham into a song.

“I was saying that this place was not very good – but using some swear words – and the police jumped out of their car and arrested me,” he explains.

Sanjay, whose song can be heard at the next Berkshire Unsigned event at the Jagz in Ascot tomorrow (Friday), was then fined £80.

“The song is the whole story about it, and it flows line by line over what happened.”

Unsigned in Berkshire nights, organised by Sanjay and Oliver Butler, have provided a platform for aspiring artists across the county, giving them an opportunity to showcase their songs.

As MCs, Sanjay and Oliver make sure they blend the type of music heard at the events, so there is never more than one genre performing.

“When we first started doing it it was because we used to go to the music nights around here and we found that there wasn’t a lot of structure. People were sitting there, but they weren’t listening,” adds Sanjay.

The pair listen to people’s demos and arrange the nights so there is a mix of music so audiences will want to listen to them all.

Tomorrow promises a great line-up. Appearing will be Hamish Meaney, who is fast making a name for himself on the festival circuit and will be performing Arrested for Swearing with Sanjay, Anna Crowley, who recently wowed crowds at the Big Day Out in Bracknell and indie band Brassneck.

“They look very promising,” said Sanjay about Brassneck.

The Unsigned in Berkshire nights have already given success as songs have been aired on Radio 1 Extra.

Unsigned in Berkshire is at Jagz at 8pm. Tickets are £5 from 01344 878100. For more information visit www.myspace.com/rawlinx
