Letter: Labour hypocrisy over new Cross Town Route

Comment Bubble Comments (0) Printer Print Article

It’s official, Labour hypocrisy knows no bounds. They are criticising

the Tories for their East Reading Bypass - which is the new name for the

Cross Town Route - whilst at the same time supporting the East Reading

Mass Rapid Transport scheme.

Both the Labour and Tory schemes involve a road following the same route going from the Thames Valley Business Park to the town centre which will concrete over green space.

Both schemes involve a large park-and-ride by the Thames which will swallow up masses of green space and both schemes pretend to be green.

The only conclusion that I can draw from this Labour hypocrisy is that they are so desperate not to lose control that they will say anything.

Only the Greens have consistently opposed the Cross Town Route in all

its forms. We have submitted our Reading-wide traffic proposals to the

Transport Commission. They are based around managing the number of cars downwards, providing sustainable alternatives and helping people to make the change.

You can view them on our website:

Yours sincerely,

Rob White

Green Party Candidate for Park Ward
