Letter: Labour shamelessly claiming credit for playground decision

Comment Bubble Comments (0) Printer Print Article

AS a regular user of the facilities at ERAPA (East Reading Adventure Playground Association) I welcome the news that it has been granted a 'stay of execution’ (The Chronicle, March 20).

But it sticks in the craw that Cllr Jon Hartley is claiming the credit.

Was he not part of the Labour team that planned this act of uncaring vandalism in the first place?

Labour’s Jon Hartley has merely acted now for fear of losing his seat in the forthcoming local election (and with good reason!)

Is it cynical to suggest that the two-month reprieve has only been allowed so that the Labour councellors can close the playgound after all the elections are safely over?

The real heroes are the dedicated ERAPA committee and the Park Ward Green Party candidate, Rob White.

It was Rob who campaigned against the closure of the playground, helped with the petition and attended the council meeting that saw the U-turn.

Rest assured that supporters of ERAPA won’t let the matter rest.
