Business schools unite

ONE of the largest business schools in Europe comes into existence on Friday when Reading university merges with Henley Management College (HMC).

The new Henley Business School (HBS) will bring the university’s famed research expertise in areas such as real estate management, sustainability and financial market trading together with the global reputation of Henley Management College in training high level bosses.

The new institution will offer courses ranging from undergraduate courses to doctoral degrees. Research will be carried out along with customised executive education. Henley Management College will continue to offer its world-renowned MBA.

Chris Bones, dean of the Henley Business School, said: “The increasing globalisation of the business education market makes it imperative that we develop our world reach.

“A consumer-focused portfolio of courses, sector leading research and a dynamic brand will attract managers and leaders of tomorrow.”

HMC, founded in 1945, is the world’s third largest supplier of MBAs, with training reaching more than 112 countries. More than 5,400 people are studying for a Henley MBA at any one time.

Its full time MBA was ranked second in the UK last year and tenth in the world while its modular MBA was ranked first in the UK and fourth in the world.

Reading University boasts undergraduate and post graduate courses spanning economics, management, real estate & planning. It is also known for its ICMA Centre and the Informatics Research Centre (IRC).

HBS will operate from the new £34m redeveloped business centre going up at the university’s Whiteknights campus and from HMC’s current Greenlands site beside the Thames in Henley.
