Simon Myles will be looking to go out in style in Wokingham's final game of the season this Saturday.

WOKINGHAM skipper Martin Bushell says he is more concerned about giving some of his side’s youngsters a chance in Saturday’s final game of the season than he is with finishing second in the league.

Bushell’s men fell to a heavy eight-wicket defeat at Thame Town last weekend allowing Finchampstead to move just eight points behind them in the table.

But the Wokingham captain insists that now his side’s title chances have gone, the most important thing for him is to give youth a try.

He said: “Honestly, it doesn’t really matter to me who finishes second between us or Finch.

“Although it would obviously be nice to get second, we want to use this opportunity to try out some different things.

“We’ve got some youngsters who have been doing well and they deserve to be given a bit of a chance.

“But we will still be looking to win this Saturday. I think we’ve outplayed Finch this season and have been pushing for the title for most of the year so I would say we deserve second.”

Wokingham will welcome vice-captain Dan Reddyhough back into the side for this Saturday’s home game with Gerrards Cross, while youngsters Matthew Noden and Ollie Miles are expected to feature.

The pair were both involved in last weekend’s defeat at Thame and put in strong displays while others around them faltered.

Noden top-scored with 35 as Wokingham were knocked over for just 108, with Jaydeep Bhatti (5-34) their chief destroyer. Thame then had little trouble in easing to 110-2 in reply.

Bushell said: “We had a weakened team for various reasons so it was always going to be a difficult game. We had 18-year-old Matthew Noden and 16-year-old Ollie Miles playing and they did really well. The rest of us just didn’t help them out.

“Their spinner bowled really well and caused us a lot of trouble. We just didn’t get enough runs, you can’t really defend 108 and expect to win.”
