Jets hit top form
By John O'Sullivan
Steve Moria.
STEVE Moria’s resurgent Slough Jets side have done their League title chances the world of good with a second consecutive four-point weekend.
Slough beat Romford 2-0 in a tight encounter at the Hangar on Saturday evening before picking up maximum points from their trip to Chelmsford on Sunday.
Back to back defeats against Guildford and Swindon four weeks ago put the Jets’ title credentials in doubt but they have responded with a tremendous run of eight wins out of nine to put themselves firmly back in the picture.
On Saturday Romford netminder Mark Lee was the star man as the opening two periods finished goalless.
Moria’s side finally broke the deadlock with just over five minutes to go when Les Millie fired past the impressive Lee on 54.49.
Scott Spearing doubled the lead to secure the win with a minute to go before the game finished with a skirmish between Paddy Ward and former Jets’ captain Norman Pinnington.
On Sunday a double from Moria saw the Jets sneak past the Chelmsford Chieftains 3-2. Former Jet Euan Forsyth gave the hosts a dream start when he opened the scoring with only 3.50 on the clock.
The lead lasted until 59 seconds into the second period when Moria notched a short-handed equaliser before putting his side one goal up on 25.47.
Zoran Kozic doubled the Jets’ lead on 37.30 before the Chieftains ensured a nervy finish with a Tom Long goal.
