Ex-serviceman Alan Wand of Maidenhead

AN EX-serviceman has backed our campaign to help soldiers adjust to life back home after fighting for their country.

The Express series launched our exclusive Value For Valour campaign this month, which aims to give something back to those who put their lives on the line by providing a range of exclusive offers to soliders who carry a MOD 90 card.

So far we have secured backing from Ascot Racecourse and ice hockey champions the Bracknell Bees play and more leisure attractions and companies will be announced over the next few weeks.

The unique range of offers caught the attention of ex-serviceman Alan Wand of Bland Ford House in Ashcroft Road, Maidenhead who says that the campaign will make a big difference to the those returning home.

After fighting in the Royal Hampshire regiment of the British Army during the 1950s, he found it very difficult to get back to a normal routine while suffering horrific flashbacks.

The 71-year-old said: "I think this campaign is a jolly good idea. When we came back from fighting in the war they simply didn't want us anymore and they didn't offer us much, we had to make our own way which just isn't right and people today shouldn't have to do that.

"Something needs to be done about that and I think this will make a big difference to their lives. They don't pay them very much to do the job so they deserve recognition for what they do as they do a grand job out there."

Value For Valour is encouraging businesses across Berkshire to get involved and support our troops by signing up and giving discounts and special offers to members of the Armed Forces.

If you are a business and could offer our servicemen and women in Berkshire a bit of value for valour then call Francess Batt on 01753 825111 or email news@sloughexpress.co.uk

Each company will receive a poster to display showing their support for the campaign plus the recognition in the newspaper and on our website

If you are a returning serviceman or woman tell us about your experiences on 01753 825111.
