Woman suffers serious burns after fire
Barnett Close in Larges Lane, Bracknell.
A WOMAN was rushed to hospital with serious burns following a fire in her flat.
Firefighters found the woman, who is in her late 50s, trapped inside a room in Bracknell’s Barnett Court when they were called around 6.10pm on Saturday.
They used breathing apparatus to rescue her before an ambulance took her to Reading’s Royal Berkshire Hospital where she is still being treated for 70% burns and smoke inhalation.
Linda Wells, housing and community services director for Barnett Court landlords Bracknell Forest Homes, said: “The fire was contained to one flat and no other flats were damaged.
“We are working with our insurers to assess the extent of the damage and to arrange the necessary repairs.
“Barnett Court remains fully functional and services to residents are continuing.
“We are working with fire investigators to find out the cause of the fire.”
The firefighters from Bracknell, Windsor and Crowthorne who attended the scene also used a large fan to blow smoke out from the room. The other 26 people from the Larges Lane sheltered accommodation block were evacuated by staff but were able to return later that evening.
A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the woman’s burns had been caused by intense heat in the room and not by direct flames She is still in a critical condition.
