Police warn motorists following car theft spree
MOTORISTS have been urged to keep their homes secure following a spate of burglaries in which car keys and cars were stolen.
The first burglary occurred overnight on Saturday (October 4) when intruders broke into a house in Priestwood and stole two cars from the driveway using keys taken from inside.
In three similar incidents which occurred overnight on Sunday (October 5), burglars stole cars and car keys from houses in the Owlsmoor and Hanworth areas.
Police are keeping an open mind as to whether the incidents are linked.
Crime reduction advisers have issued the following advice:
• The best place to keep car keys and valuables such as purses and laptops when asleep at night is in the bedroom, or at least upstairs.
• Remove all valuables, such as sat nav systems, from cars and leave nothing on show to attract thieves. Leaving your car unlocked will almost certainly invalidate your insurance.
• Another reasonably cheap way of preventing your car from being stolen is to install a collapsible bollard. Then you can park the car with its front close to the garage or house and its rear close to the bollard. It will be impossible for thieves to move the car without smashing down the bollard, which will make a lot of noise and take a lot of effort. The bollards cost about £120 and are available from security shops.
