Church outlinees its hopes for 2010
By Jonathan Kelly
A SERVICE was set to be held earlier today as a bishop launched a church’s future vision.
The Right Reverend Stephen Cotterall, Bishop of Reading was due to hold the service at All Saints Church, Wiltshire Road, Wokingham, this morning at 9.30am.
The service was a chance for the bishop to commission church members to work towards its vision of how it wants to be in 2010. The Reverend David Hodgson, rector of All Saints, said: “Our church members have developed a vision of the church we aim to be by 2010. We want to be a church which makes a positive difference to this community.
“To make this happen we are changing the way we run the church. A large church like All Saints needs its small groups to flourish, so people can get to know each other and support each other through life and work. We are launching a lighter and more flexible way of organising ourselves together.
“It will free us to focus on achieving the goals we have set for this church.
“All Saints is part of a growing global movement of churches emerging into a new way of being a church; open, inclusive and non-judgmental; a community for anyone who wants to explore a way of life which is different, caring and generous and hopeful for the future.”
The vision for All Saints Parish has five goals; engaging with young people; being a communicative church; supporting people in their gifts and talents; enabling a diversity of worship styles and becoming an integral part of the wider community.
