Jets blow title race wide open
THE SLOUGH Jets blew the English Premier League Ice Hockey race wide open with a much needed four-point weekend.
With leaders Guildford dropping points for the second straight weekend, the Jets piled on the pressure with a 7-1 thumping of this season’s surprise package Milton Keynes at the Hangar on Saturday evening.
The Jets went in front through captain Nicky Chinn after only 3.43 and never looked back as they raced into a 4-1 lead by the end of the first, with further goals from Kevin Phillips, Chinn and head coach Steve Moria.
The second period was much the same as the first with the Jets out-shooting their opponents by two to one, and they extended their lead further with two goals from Zoran Kozic. In the third Moria grabbed his second to complete the scoring.
The Jets followed this up with an impressive 5-1 win over Telford on Sunday. Goals from Stewart Tait, Jan Krajicek and Moria gave them a 3-1 lead after the first period. Richard Hargreaves and Moria made sure of the win in the last.
* THE Jets won through to the League Cup final on Tuesday with a 5-4 aggregate win over Sheffield.
